The Reasons Vinyl Plank Flooring Has Become So Popular in Homes Across Canada

Toughness is one more major advantage. The best vinyl planks come with a tough top coating designed to resist scratches, stains and UV fading. Families with kids and pets appreciate how easy it is to maintain: a quick sweep and occasional damp mopping keep it looking new.

A key function is to provide sound reduction. Floating floors may sound loud without a good underlay. A quality underlayment absorbs impact sound, something that is especially important in apartments and condos where strata rules often set specific acoustic ratings.

When people shop for flooring, anchor they tend to focus on colour, style and price. But what you put under the boards plays an equally important role. A good underlayment can make a big difference in how the floor feels, sound and moisture protection, and can help your flooring last longer.

Buyers notice floors right away. Dated carpet, scuffed floors or cracked tile send a message suggesting that the home requires repairs. In contrast, fresh, modern flooring makes a home feel bright and well-maintained, and that often helps it sell faster.

Comfort is also important, especially when temperatures drop. Luxury vinyl tends to feel softer and quieter underfoot compared to ceramic tile, while several products come with a built-in underlay that adds extra comfort.

If you are thinking of selling in the next few years, or even if you just want to refresh your living space, replacing old flooring is easily one of the smartest renovations you can make. Your floors make up almost every square foot of a house, which means they have a huge impact on first impressions.

Consistency is also important. Too many flooring types from room to room often makes a home feel disjointed. Using a single floor through the main living areas creates a clean, open feel that buyers appreciate.

Real hardwood is a timeless option. It brings warmth that no imitation fully matches, and it can be refinished many times during its lifespan. Being able to refinish it allows quality hardwood to last for decades. It usually increases buyer appeal across Canada.

Vinyl plank flooring is often at the top of the list for pet owners. It’s water-resistant, meaning spilled drinks are easy to clean up. A strong wear layer will help resist scuffs, and the softer surface feels more comfortable for running feet and paws.

Laminate has evolved significantly. Premium laminate products uses realistic printed designs and embossed textures that feel very close to real wood. Its tough top layer makes it very resistant to daily wear, and it costs lower. Many collections now include water-resistant cores.

Underlayment also smooths out minor imperfections in the base while gives some comfort and insulation. Note, though, it is not a substitute for levelling the subfloor: major unevenness must be levelled beforehand.

Installing it is typically straightforward. Click-lock systems can be laid over most flat subfloors, which saves labour costs. That said, a flat, clean subfloor makes all the difference for a long-lasting result.

The biggest advantage of vinyl plank is that many products are waterproof. In contrast to traditional laminate, good vinyl flooring won’t warp after contact with spills. It is therefore an excellent choice for wet areas like kitchens and bathrooms.

When your household includes pets and kids, you know how quickly floors take a beating. Pet nails, toy cars and blocks, accidents and wet paws will wear down a delicate surface in a few months. Luckily: modern floor materials are made to stand up to real life.

Real wood continues to be a feature buyers love. Engineered hardwood offers the same appeal and better stability across the seasons. For a smaller budget, quality laminate is able to provide an equally attractive wood look for less.

Is hardwood an option? It is possible, though choose wisely. Harder woods such as hickory, maple and oak hold up better, while matte finishes and textured surfaces hide small scratches far better than glossy floors.

Turning a basement into living space is a great way to increase the usable space and value to your home. Yet basements present special challenges: cold concrete, dampness and chilly surfaces. The wrong floor may result in mildew, buckling and costly repairs.

Quality laminate is also a strong option. The hard melamine surface stays very resistant to claw marks, often better than vinyl. Select products with a high abrasion rating as well as good moisture protection for busy homes.

Engineered wood can also work if you want natural wood. Due to its cross-ply structure, engineered wood handles humidity changes better than solid hardwood, which is a poor choice in basements. Always use a moisture barrier for long-term performance.

LVP is widely considered the top option below grade. Several vinyl products are waterproof, so they will not swell or rot when humidity shows up. Rigid-core planks also bridge minor imperfections in the subfloor.
